Course description

The BSc (Hons) Accounting degree is a three/four year programme that includes an optional work placement year. It covers accounting theory and practice, and related subjects, and offers substantial exemptions from the examinations of the main UK professional accounting bodies.

Course aims

The BSc (Hons) Accounting provides a thorough academic grounding in the skills and techniques necessary for entry into the accounting profession. The programme incorporates an optional work placement year, and offers professional accreditation.

Special features

There is a high demand for this programme and so entry requirements are correspondingly high. You will be taught by staff who are leading researchers in their fields, some of whom are also qualified accountants. The programme includes an optional (but not guaranteed) work placement year with a firm of accountants and provides substantial exemptions from the examinations of the main UK professional accountancy bodies. In particular, the programme has strong links with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Career opportunities

This programme is designed primarily for those interested in a career in the accounting profession. The course will give you significant exemptions from the professional examinations of the main UK accounting bodies, and if you successfully elect for the work placement year you will gain relevant experience with a leading UK accounting firm. The programme is also suitable if you are considering careers in other fields of accounting, finance or banking, whether in industry or business management, in the public sector or in other parts of the financial world.

Graduates may also choose to go on to undertake post-graduate study.
