Course description
The BA (Hons) Accounting, Management and Information Systems programme provides the opportunity to study key Information Systems issues in conjunction with Accounting.  Throughout the programme students will be able to complement their studies with courses from the other pathway (i.e. Management for Accounting specialists and vice versa).
Course aims
The BA (Hons) Accounting, Management and Information Systems programme aims to:

  • enable students to acquire state of the art knowledge and understanding of the fields of  accountancy,management and information systems.
  • provide an educational experience which will facilitate and promote students' intellectual development and life-long learning skills
  • promote an appreciation of the association between theory and practice
  • enable students to develop appropriate practical and transferable skills

Special features
This programme enables students to develop knowledge and key skills in complementary discipline areas that are highly sought after by employers - accounting, management and information systems.  Increasingly, accountants and managers are required to be adept at managing complex IS projects and contributing to the development of new systems; this course is designed to give students in-depth experience in both the academic theory of these issues and their practical application in real life through case studies and a compulsory IS project.

A degree in Accounting, Management and Information Systems can lead you into a range of careers within the financial and business world such as a career within the accounting profession with a firm of accountants in practice, in industry or in public sector organisations.
Graduates will also be equipped with numeric, business and information systems skills that will enable them to succeed in roles requiring analytical abilities, leadership and team working qualities, and business acumen.
Entry requirements

  • English language: IELTS 6.5. Minimum 6 in any component. 577 in the TOEFL written test, 233 in the computerised TOEFL (including 5 in TWE), or 90 in the internet TOEFL with a minimum of 20 in each component.
  • A level: Grades AAB.  General Studies is accepted if one of four A Levels passed in the same sitting.
  • AS level: Two AS-levels accepted in place of one A-level providing at least one AS-level is studied at Year 13.
  • Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications.  Unit grades will not normally form part of offer conditions, except for Mathematics programmes.
  • GCSE: Grade B in English language and Mathematics.
  • Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification. However, as the opportunities to take these modules are not open to all applicants, currently this is not an essential requirement of the University.
  • International Baccalaureate: 35 points with 6, 6, 7 in the Higher Level subjects.
