About the programme

This degree allows you to acquire a near-native competence in a European language other than English as well as an excellent understanding of contemporary anthropology. Your language skills, and immersion in another culture, will give you an awareness of how language informs their conception of the world, helping you to view your own position from an outside perspective. At the same time you will develop the skills necessary for an anthropological understanding of social and cultural phenomena.

In Years 1 and 2 and your final year, you spend half your time studying anthropology and half studying a European language in its linguistic, cultural and social context. You spend Year 3 studying at a university appropriate to your selected language, in Europe, Spanish-speaking Latin America or French overseas territories, before returning to Sussex for your final year.
