About the programme
Environmental and Infrastructure Planning (EIP) focuses on the sustainable planning of environmental issues, infrastructure and water. It does so from a spatial planning perspective, which implies exploring the relationship between societal and political processes on the one hand and infrastructure development, realisation and management, concerning roads, utilities, resources, water systems and the like, on the other. Specific attention is given to the question how planners, decision-makers and developers deal with this relationship, and how useful policy strategies can be established.
Career prospects
The diversity and complexity of EIP opens a wide field of potential careers. The civil service at all different levels of government is an important employer. Many EIP graduates start as a policy adviser within international, national, provincial and local offices in charge of spatial planning, transportation or water management. Another major employer is the private sector where especially consultancy firms are keen to hire their graduates. Last but not least a number of graduates have started their own business and are thus self-employed.
