Course details

Fine art painting offers the most direct and responsive means of expressing and developing visual ideas. Building on the history and tradition of painting, the course seeks to question and redefine its role in a changing society.

On this course you will study all aspects of painting and also benefit from being part of their community of fine artists.

Career and progression opportunities

Many graduates take up art-related activities such as teaching or art administration to support their practice. The majority are both employed part-time and working freelance. A high percentage go on to postgraduate study.

Past graduates have won the National Mercury Art Prize and the Boundary Gallery Art Award London.

Entry requirements

  • A-levels: will not normally provide sufficient grounding without a subsequent foundation diploma.
  • ND/C (Level 3): DMM.
  • International Baccalaureate: will not normally provide sufficient grounding without a subsequent foundation diploma.
  • QAA-approved access course: acceptable; subject specific units.
  • GCSE (minimum grade C): a good profile.
  • For non-native speakers of English: IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing.
  • Other: Art and Design Foundation Diploma.
