The Astrophysics Master’s programme at Utrecht University aims to bring you to the level of a starting scientific researcher. The training is aimed specifically at astrophysical research, but its width and depth also prepare you for a career in related fields, such as physics.
Graduates from the Utrecht Master’s programme in Astrophysics are ready to continue in a Ph.D. programme anywhere in the Netherlands. Occasionally, they opt to do a PhD study elsewhere in Europe or in the United States. A Ph.D. programme lasts four years.
After obtaining a Ph.D. degree, astrophysicists usually pursue their career as a postdoctoral researcher in an institute anywhere in the world, but they often also find their way into a position at a government-funded research institute or in industry.
