Introduction

The Sports Biology content is (non-traditional) 'sports science', and is best described as biological and biomedical science in which sport is used as the means to describe and discuss biological principles, with an emphasis on applied physiology and pharmacology. The specific focus of this degree will interest those aiming for careers in research in applied physiology and pharmacology related to sport, such as sport pharmaceuticals and sport-specific nutrition.

Careers/further study

Many graduates choose to engage in further study, including MPhil/PhD research degrees or taught Master's programmes. Some 70 per cent of our graduates follow careers in biological sciences; in particular, research and development work in the pharmaceutical, health care and agrochemical sectors.

The course prepares graduates to work in a wide range of careers including teaching or research in fields such as human biology, anthropology, nutrition and neuropsychology in the context of health and physical activity or sport.
