The Graduate School provides training for students in scientific areas which are highly interdisciplinary and interfacial by covering biology, chemistry and biomedicine.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Medical Faculty, together with our partner universities have identified key research areas in which we possess the required critical mass and established networks of reputed researchers with successful, highly competitive, and funded research programmes. These include chemical biology, metabolism and ageing, metabolic diseases (diabetes, obesity) membrane and lipid biochemistry, immunology, combinatorial chemistry, cell biology, developmental biology and genetics, and comprise LIMES Chemical Biology research areas.
Additional programmes that are tightly associated with this Graduate School are template controlled organic chemistry, and molecular mechanisms of drug action. All these research platforms are perfectly suited to providing guidance and experience in the most modern and exciting technologies, biomolecular analyses, and model organisms (mouse, Drosophila).
The intensive, research-oriented education qualifies students for professional work in the fields of molecular biosciences and biomedicine and contributes to bridging the educational gap between chemistry, biology, and medicine.
