Babraham is an independent research institute principally supported by the BBSRC and is part of the Graduate School of Biological, Medical and Veterinary Sciences. Our laboratories are situated in a pleasant parkland campus, at the centre of a uniquely strong European bioscience research `corridor' stretching from the University, past Addenbrooke's Hospital and out to the Sanger Institute/European Bioinformatics Institute.

The Babraham Institute is an international focus for innovative research in post-genomics, studying gene function in cells, organs and systems. Their scientists aim to understand how normal cellular processes operate and change during development and with age, and when they can go wrong in disease. The objective is to provide novel targets for the development of therapies and diagnostics of potential social and economic benefit.

Key research areas

  • Signal transduction
  • Neurobiology
  • Proteomics
  • Developmental genetics and imprinting
  • Molecular and developmental immunology
  • Regulation of gene expression
  • Neurodegenerative disease
  • Neural and genetic basis of behaviour
  • Bioinformatics
