The programme comprises mandatory courses (modules) in microbial, plant and human/animal biotechnology and genomics as well as biotech-risk assessment/ethics and patent law. These courses support the transfer of knowledge at the theoretical and methodological level and foster interdisciplinary communication. Furthermore, elective courses are designed to deepen knowledge in any of the programmes main topic areas, from basic techniques to cutting-edge developments. Additionally, a mandatory industrial internship of at least 2 months is included. At the end of the programme (2nd half of year 2) a Master's thesis must be prepared. Optional courses comprise research-oriented special events or workshops as well as special courses for the improvement of foreign language proficiency and practical competencies. Foreign students may take German courses alongside the scientific programme.
