This course is intended for students who are interested in entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity related to chemistry and wish to pursue careers in companies seeking to exploit exciting innovations in chemical technology. Hence, the course provides a training in both business activities and modern chemical research related to a particular field of chemistry. Students are registered in the School of Chemistry but the Course is centred in both the School of Chemistry and the Institute for Entrepreneurship.
Within the Institute of Entrepreneurship (IfE), courses will cover topics such as Innovation and Technology Transfer, Marketing and Market Analysis, Finance and Accounting, Strategy and Leadership as well as Corporate Venturing, especially as these issues relate to entrepreneurial businesses. During the second half of the year, students have the choice of putting together a business proposal or writing a dissertation on a topic related to entrepreneurship; these will be guided by a tutor in IfE and constitute 33% of the assessment.
