Courses available
The Chemistry Foundation Year, leading to our Chemistry Honours degree programmes, is designed for students whose qualifications on leaving school are not appropriate for direct entry on to Honours degrees.
This specially designed programme offers you an opportunity to enter the scientific community if your qualifications at A level are not compatible (either in respect of grades or subjects) with the normal entrance requirements of our BSc degree programmes. It is also attractive to mature students who may need a period of retraining before entering our BSc degrees.
The Chemistry (International Foundation Programme) option combines the Foundation Year with English language tuition.
The Foundation Year itself is a full-time preliminary year that provides entry to the Honours degree programmes. You study a range of modules within the School of Chemistry, including practical and project work in addition to lectures and workshops.
On successful completion of the Foundation Year you automatically continue on to one of the three-year Honours programmes. The Foundation Year can also serve as a gateway to programmes in related disciplines at Birmingham and chemistry degrees at other institutions.
