The MPhil focuses on the design and execution of an original research project, which occupies about two-thirds of the year, with correspondingly less time devoted to formal teaching.

The MPhil is normally a one year research degree with emphasis on the design and execution of an original research project. The project will occupy about two thirds of the year, with the remainder of the time devoted to lectures and preparation of the MPhil thesis. The component of the MPhil programme devoted to formal teaching is lower than that is in the MSc degree programme.

Entry requirements: Second-class honours degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering/science subject.
