The Centre for Protein Engineering (CPE) was set up in 1989 as an interdisciplinary research centre with the purpose of bringing together groups from different disciplines, but with overlapping interests in protein structure and design. There is a rich mix of scientists with varied backgrounds and nationalities.

Key research areas

  • The main focus of the CPE has been the analysis and design of novel proteins for fundamental, medically related and biotechnology research.
  • The main area of research is the structure, function, folding and design of proteins and the role of protein folding in disease.

Research collaborations

  • Some members of the Centre are based in the University Department of Chemistry.
  • There are close links with the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.
