A PhD research degree takes place over three-four years, during which you will carry out research into the area you have chosen and finish with the publication of your own thesis (on which you will be assessed). Throughout the course of your PhD you will receive supervision from a member of academic staff in the Department which takes the form of regular meetings about your work.
Topics include Coordination chemistry, environmental chemistry, main group and organometallic chemistry, molecular magnetism, nonlinear optics and radiochemistry.
The standard academic entry requirement for PhD entry is normally an Upper Second UK Honours degree or international equivalent in a relevant science discipline.
English Language requirements
Students whose first degree has not been studied in English will normally have to reach a required standard in an International English language examination such as IELTS (6.5) or TOEFL (570 PBT, 230 CBT) and may be required to attend a language course at the University Language Centre prior to entry.
