Course description

This programme is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in civil engineering, but with an insight into North American practice.

The third year is spent in Canada, where they have a special link with the University of Calgary. The first two years of the programme are in common with the first two years of the other MEng programmes. Once in Calgary ( Year 3), you continue to follow the core areas of the home MEng programmes, along with options relating to North American design and construction practice.

The fourth year consists of a selection of course units from the third and fourth years of the MEng Civil Engineering programmes.

Entry requirements

  • English language: English language qualification requirements: Minimum grade C in English Language or equivalent qualification: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550/220 Computer Based or 80 Internet Based with a minimum of 20 in each component.
  • A level: Grades AAB. This should include Mathematics (must include applied element - if not Physics must be offered) and a science (Physics preferred but Chemistry, Biology or Engineering Science also acceptable). Two AS-levels of equivalent grade are acceptable in place of a third A-level. General Studies is not accepted.
  • Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications.
  • GCSE: Minimum grade C in English Language.
  • Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification. However, as the opportunities to take these modules are not open to all applicants, currently this is not an essential requirement of the University.
  • International Baccalaureate: International baccalaureate: 35-33 points overall including either 6 or 5 in Mathematics and Physics at the Higher level depending on the course applied for.
