Multimedia systems integrate all different types of data - text, graphics, image, video and sound - in a unified computing environment. In the 1990's there was a phenomenal growth in the 'multimedia industry' and much more is predicted. This combined with the growth of the Internet means that the subject must now be significant part of any computer science curriculum. Southampton has the IAM and LSL groups that undertake state-of-the-art research in the Multimedia area. Fittingly, the coursework will involve a research-led approach to learning about the Multimedia topics.
Major employers worldwide are keen to employ our graduates in system development, information technology and communications, and in the finance, service, communications and entertainment industries.
