About the programme

Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) is the multi-disciplinary field of computer-based modelling and simulation for studying scientific phenomena and engineering designs.

The Master's Program on "Computational Science and Engineering" is an interdisciplinary course. Besides giving an introduction to the basic subjects "Applied Mathematics" and "Computer Science", the program will provide insight into different important fields of applications of scientific computing. To forge links to applications of CSE in industry, an industrial internship has been included, as well.

Study Requirements

Scientific Qualification

To be eligible for the CSE Master's Program, you need either

  • an above-average (see FAQ) bachelor's degree (from an internationally recognised university) in engineering or science or a related field, or
  • a diploma or master's degree (from an internationally recognised university) in one of the above-mentioned fields, or
  • an above average (see FAQ) diploma or master's degree (from a university corresponding to a German Fachhochschule) in one of the above-mentioned fields. From winter 07/08, an excellent bachelor's degree will also be eligible.

Background in Science or Engineering

The CSE master's program is primarily intended for students with a previous degree in one of the classical engineering (civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering) or science disciplines (physics, etc.); applicants who come from closely related subjects or from interdisciplinary programs (computational engineering or sciences, mechatronics, etc.) are, of course, welcome as well.

English Language Proficiency

If you are not a native speaker of the English language, you need either

  • a TOEFL certificate (score should be around 80 points or better in the internet-based TOEFL), or
  • an overall IELTS score of 6.0 or better, or
  • equivalent test results (e.g. Cambridge Main Suite of English Examinations, CAE).
