Introduction

The MSc Multimedia is a masters Multimedia course that has been running since 1996 and is one of the most established Multimedia courses in the country. The Masters Multimedia course  has had large amounts of publicity over the last few years after the course leader, Russell Stannard , won the “Outstanding Initiative in ICT”.

Couser Overview

The MSc in Multimedia is a medium sized course that usually has about 20 students studying at any one time. Most of the students study full-time but about 4 or 5 students choose to study the course in part-time mode. Full-time students are expected to attend on a Monday and Tuesday and part time students study over 2 years and choose one day in year 1 and the other day the following year. This way they only need day release from their jobs to complete the course over 2 years.

The course covers the main areas of Interactive Multimedia. You will do direct work with Adobe Flash, Adobe Director, Abode Premier and 3D Studio Max. You will also get to use products such as Photoshop, Fireworks and Sound Forge. On the scripting and programming side there are courses which deal with  HTML, XML, CSS, and PHP etc. There is also a compulsory project management course, which is very popular and was incorporated into the course due to comments from various companies in the industry. On the project management course you work with a real company and start a project right from scratch right through to the delivery of a prototype. Modules that deal with Human Computer Interaction are also on offer.

Associated Careers

Many of the students on the course find themselves working in project management after they have finished. Other areas are marketing, the music industry and interactive television. Students become developers and designers and some will choose to further their careers in education, continuing on to do a PHD or research based work. The contacts we have with industry mean they have an excellent record of helping students to find jobs. Again you can find a link to information about jobs here.
