About the programme

This Master’s programme focuses on questions, techniques and systems for artificial intelligence from a computer science perspective. Technical Artificial Intelligence is of particular interest to students who wish to broaden their perspective and reach out to neighbouring fields such as philosophy, mathematics, economy, sociology, psychology, linguistics and law. This programme emphasises the logical and symbolical models involved in describing and implementing agents.

Career Opportunities

Technical Artificial Intelligence graduates will be able to identify the complex problems organisations have in constructing software and will be able to point to intelligent solutions for such problems using the most advanced techniques. They want to emphasise that the programme does not focus on specific products or tools from specific vendors; instead, they study the underlying techniques and methods that are of a longer lasting value.

Entrance Requirements

Degrees in all probability meeting these requirements are:

• a BSc with a major in Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence;
• BSc with a science major and
  • a minor in Computer Science or
  • a minor in Technical Artificial Intelligence or
  • a comparable use of the non-major part of the Bachelor programme
• a HBO-diploma (HIO) or (Technical) Computer Science.

Proficiency in English

All other applicants, including applicants who hold a Dutch HBO diploma (diploma of higher professional education), must provide proof of proficiency in English. To do so, you are required to take one of the following English language tests:

• IELTS, Academic Module. Minimum score: 6.5 overall band, at least 6 for writing. IELTS is the test preferred by Utrecht University.
• TOEFL, Internet based. Minimum score: 93. Institutional scores are not accepted. The TOEFL institution code for Utrecht University is 9062.
• Cambridge Certificates
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English at least a B grade.
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English at least a C grade.
