Course Description
Contemporary Asian Studies is an innovative programme with a broad, interdisciplinary character and comparative approach. This programme focuses on all the main regions of Asia, stressing the importance of looking at interconnections both within the vast Asian region and between Asian societies and other parts of the world, especially Europe. The crucial importance of Asia for current and future social science theory is demonstrated throughout the programme.
Career prospects
An increasing number of companies, governments and international organisations (NGOs and media) have branches in Asia or engage in close cooperation with Asian countries. They need people with a well-grounded and up-to-date knowledge of Asian societies to fill their executive positions. Graduates of the Contemporary Asian Studies programme are well prepared for such positions.
Admission requirments
Educational requirements:
- Academic Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Humanities or Economics, including 30 EC in Asian Studies subjects
Language requirements:
- TOEFL (minimum score: 570 (paper)/230 (computer)/88 (internet) ); IELTS (minimum score: 6.5), Cambridge: minimum score of CAE B or CPE C
Other requirements:
- Grade Average of at least B/3.0 (American system), Second class, lower division Honours degree (British system), C (ECTS-system), 7.0 (Dutch system)
