Problems in intercultural communication result from various social differences that can be described and reflected upon within the framework of cultural studies.
Mutual discrimination, one's own and external perceptions as well as processes of the construction of identity have a latent conflict potential, the explosive force of which is necessary to be disarmed. Intercultural Communication Studies conveys detailed knowledge of the research approaches of various cultural studies-related disciplines that deal with the individual issues in the field of study. Attention is focused on processes of intercultural interaction in the German-Polish border region - processes which are imbedded in a superordinate interaction context between Eastern and Western Europe.

Applicants whose native language is not German are expected to actively master the German language and pass the DSH Examination.
All students are required to master two modern foreign languages on the level of UNIcert II. A UNIcert II certificate in one foreign language can be replaced by a qualification in Latin and the verification of language ability on middle-school level according to the Unicert scale.
Students whose native language is not of Slavic origin and do not speak Polish must acquire the UNIcert I certificate in Polish.
Students whose native language is a Slavic language and speak Polish at the UNIcert I level must acquire a UNIcert I certificate in a further foreign language they did not speak at the commencement of their studies.
