The Centre of International Studies provides unique opportunities to contribute to scholarly as well as public debate on some of the most significant issues facing the world. Its primary roles are to encourage research in international relations and to run an MPhil Degree programme; in addition, they run jointly with Madingley Hall a two-year part-time MSt in International Relations. The Centre of International Studies has an impressive record of achievements and many of their graduate students have gone on to achieve positions of distinction.

Key research areas:

  • Their PhD students research a wide range of topics, including international security, foreign policy, the European Union, human rights, intervention, the use of force and international relations theory.

Research collaborations:

  • They are actively engaged in collaborative research with other University departments, including the Centre of Latin American Studies and the Centre for European Legal Studies and with other organisations, such as Chatham House and the Federal Trust.
  • They maintain close relations with several academic institutions overseas, including the European Centre for Minority Issues based in Flensburg.
