Educational requirements:

  • BA in Languages and Cultures of Latin American / Amerindian Studies or a related field (see website www.leiden.edu)

Language requirements:

  • TOEFL (minimum score: 570/230); IELTS (minimum score: 6.5), Good/sufficient command of Spanish or Portuguese.

Objectives:

  • The programme offers two specialisations: Latin American Studies and Amerindian Studies. They each represent specific approaches to studying Latin America and Indo-America, but together they offer a complementing view on the social and cultural complexity of the region under research.

Subjects:

  • Latin American: state & citizenship in contemporary Latin America; modernisation, integration processes & socio-cultural changes; development in meta-cultural discourse in L.A.; time & image in contemporary L.A. - Amerindian: description & reconstruction of Am. languages; Mesoamerican pictography & historical texts in Am. languages; Cacicazgos; contemporary Am. societies & movements.

Modes of instruction:

  • Lectures, seminars, research projects, master's thesis field work.
