The Centre was founded in 1966. Its main purpose is to provide a focus for Latin American teaching and scholarship across the humanities and social sciences, and to run the MPhil in Latin American Studies.
Affiliated lecturers from Modern and Medieval Languages, History, Anthropology, International Studies, Economics, Social and Political Sciences, and other University departments all contribute to their MPhil programme, as do the Centre's own lecturer and research officer.
