Educational requirements: Academic Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, including Human geography, urban planning, political science, sociology, anthropology.
Language requirements: TOEFL (minimum score: 570 (paper)/230 (computer)/88 (internet)); IELTS (minimum score: 6.5), Cambridge: minimum score of CAE B or CPE C.
Other requirements: Grade Average of at least B/3.0 (American system), Second class, lower division Honours degree (British system), C (ECTS-system), 7.0 (Dutch system).
Objectives: To provide students with an in-depth knowledge of recent theoretical approaches in political science, sociology and cultural anthropology and first-hand experience with empirical research in these fields.
Subjects: Metropolitan governance and spatial planning; social challenges for the city in a globalizing world; world cities; research methodology; dynamics of international migration and integration; social problems in urban areas: views, concepts, theories and controversies; thesis.
Modes of instruction: Seminars, lectures, audiovisual presentations, essays.
