Educational requirements: BSc in the social sciences (sociology, social studies, anthropology, communication studies) or economics.
Language requirements: TOEFL (minimum score: 580); IELTS (minimum score: 6.5)
Other requirements: Grade Point Average of at least 70%; good skills in mathematics and/or statistics; basic computer skills.
Objectives: Academic training in International Development Studies, aiming to provide students the knowledge and skills to analyse development processes, to conduct and assess research, to translate research findings into development policies and intervention strategies, and to function in diverse multidisciplinary teams and organisational settings.
Subjects: The programme focuses on processes of development and change, with emphasis on rural areas, agro-food chains and the management of the natural environment, both in developing countries and in Europe. Students follow one of three specialisations: sociology of rural development; economics of rural development; communication, technology and policy.
Modes of instruction: Lectures, practical work, case work, group work, computer models, excursions, self study, thesis research.
