Educational requirements:

  • BA degree in social science (preferably economics), at least class 2.2 or B, preferably class 2.1. Check ISS website for specific requirements.

Professional experience required:

  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience relevant to ECD is normally expected and is a preference for admission.

Language requirements:

  • TOEFL (minimum score: overall 580); IELTS (minimum score: overall 6.5), Other tests, like ALIGU and Michigan, are also recognised. Applicants need to demonstrate a level at least equivalent to the TOEFL/IELTS requirements.

Other requirements:

  • Working knowledge of statistics and mathematics.

Objectives:

  • Alumni will have knowledge, policy awareness and analytical techniques to tackle key issues in economic development and macroeconomic policy analysis. They will be familiar with contemporary debates and policy making in development. Through their knowledge of alternative schools of economic thought they are able to participate in decision-making on balanced sustainable and equitable development.

Subjects:

  • Macro-economic policies and adjustment; international trade, finance and development; sustainable growth and human development.

Modes of instruction:

  • Lectures with individual and group work, class discussions, practical applications, individual assignments and exercises using appropriate software packages, tutorial groups, research paper.
