Course description

"Environmental Management" at the Ecology Centre of the University of Kiel aims to form professionals in the environmental sector to be able to work in interdisciplinary and international teams.

Course aim

  • To acquire skills, assess and apply complex management concepts in order to solve today's and tomorrow's environmental challenges
  • To gain knowledge in environmental sciences and their practical application
  • To gain knowledge in natural sciences, including knowledge of methods in system analysis, modelling, geographic information systems (GIS) and data management
  • To learn how to conceptualize adaptive management, including economic and social aspects
  • To train soft skills by working in international and interdisciplinary teams

Admission Requirements

At least a Bachelor in natural sciences, economics, agronomics, forestry, geography or engineering related to environmental matters with an ECTS grade of B− or higher.

Language requirements: as all classes are given in English, a good level of English (written as well as spoken) is mandatory. Accepted as proof for language proficiency are:

  • 580 points in TOEFL-paper based(Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • 230 points in TOEFL-Computer based (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • 90 points in TOEFL-Internet based (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • 6.5 points in IELTS, no band less than 6 (International English Language Testing System)
  • 8 years of English classes at German Schools in "Sekundarstufe I und II"
  • a stay of 6 months in a native English speaking country
