The programme imparts theoretical knowledge and practical experience in Landscape Ecology, Biology, Conservation Biology, Geosciences, Ethics, Communication and Economy and is based on individual mentoring.

The graduated M.Sc. in Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation will have:

  • substantial knowledge of the structure and function of ecosystems in time and space on a global scale
  • broad knowledge of the international framework of instruments and organisations in nature conservation
  • substantial knowledge in the ethical and economical dimension of global nature conservation
  • practical knowledge in the analysis, assesment and management of landscapes
  • the ability to critically discuss various scientific methods as well as ecological management practices
  • ability to organise scientific work in international and multidisciplinary teams

Semester 1 & 2: Fundamentals (50 credit points): Landscape and Vegetation, International Conservation & Management 1, Ethics & Economics of Sustainable Land Use, Personal Profiling & Soft Skills, Practical Study Project, Practical Landscape Ecology, Excursion Landscape Ecology

Semester 2 & 3: Specialisation (selection of 5 modules covering 40 credit points): International Conservation & Management 2, Environmental Ethics, Global Change, Restoration Ecology, Vegetation Ecology, Applied Vegetation Ecology, Aquatic Ecology, Mire Ecology, Palaeoecology, Plant Systematics, Population Biology & Genetics of Plants, Animal Conservation & Ecology, Ornithology

Semester 4: Master's thesis (30 credit points)
