The course comprises the following compulsory modules:
- Analytical chemistry
- Applied microbiology
- Biofouling/biocorrosion
- Chemometrics
- Environmental microbiology
- Hygiene
- Water chemistry
Within these modules, two laboratory courses in environmental microbiology and analytical chemistry are included. An additional research-oriented practical course in the third term can be chosen either in these or related subjects. Additional optional courses can be chosen from a variety of water-related topics to set a more individual study focus.

- Electrochemistry and electrochemical analysis
- Environmental chemistry (with options air, soil/waste and pollutants)
- Hydrochemical system modelling
- Membrane technology
- Quality and project management
- Stable isotope analysis
- Technical engineering water
- Waste water treatment
A special lecture series offered in the summer term is Water - it aims at creating an understanding of the important role of water in society and the necessity for transdisciplinary solutions for water-related problems. It involves lecturers with diverse backgrounds from within and outside UDE.
