Course Description

The Integrated PhD is a structured programme combining instructional and research elements and professional skills in a flexible, student-centred package. You may exit at master’s or MPhil level, according to your needs and performance. Subject to satisfactory completion of the taught course component, you will proceed to research in June of year one. You will be assigned an advisory group, consisting of a thesis supervisor and two other members of staff with related research interests.

Programme Structure

Year one

• Taught modules from a relevant MSc/PG Dip programme, which provide an opportunity to develop your research interests
• The development of a thesis proposal, including an outline of research methodology and preliminary literature review

Year two

• Advanced modules to extend your understanding of recent developments in your chosen research area
• Workshops designed to foster your research skills

Years three and four

• Full-time work on your PhD, with regular progress reviews with your advisory group, culminating in completion of your PhD and defenc
• Research workshops and seminars, at which you will present your work

Entry requirements

• Good undergraduate degree in economics, with strengths in quantitative methods
