About the programme
Education and community development refers to education in the broadest sense encompassing both informal and formal education contexts. The programme is about exploring the values that underpin teaching and learning in informal contexts, the approaches and methods used in informal contexts, and the application of these in formal contexts as well.
Career opportunities
Successful completion of the programme will prepare you to proceed to a career carrying out community development work in a wide range of contexts including the voluntary sector, local government, and health & social services as well as education. With this degree, you can also apply for the Primary PGCE programme school teaching or continue your studies at master’s level.
Admission requirments
- 200 UCAS tariff points
- If you are entering from school or college the basic entry requirement is usually a minimum of two A level subjects, (or equivalent e.g. Baccalaureate, Irish Highers, GNVQ or BTEC awards) and five GCSEs at Grade C.
- For all programmes they welcome mature students who may not have formal qualifications. Their prior learning and experience will be taken into account as will their attendance at a recognised Access to Higher Education or Access to a Teaching programme.
