Course description
The internet is perhaps the most familiar communication network. It comprises many types of network, including: radio, satellite, cable, infra-red, optical-fibre and microwave. This course offers you opportunity to study all of these network types and understand how network protocols enable them all to work together to transport information across the office or around the world.
Career opportunities
Mobile computing, satellite communications, Java programming of Internet applications and smartcard security are just a few examples of the specialist areas in which graduates from this degree discipline could contribute expertise.
Entry requirements
- English language:
- GCSE English grade C
- GCE O-Level English Language grade C
- IELTS 6.0 with no sub test less than 5.0
- TOEFL 550 (TWE of 5), Computer Based 213 (TWE of 5), Internet Based 79 (Minimum of 19/30 in each component).
- English First Language or English Second Language (Cambridge IGCSE) grade C
- Certificate of Proficiency in English or Certificate in Advanced English (Cambridge ESOL) grade C
- A level: AAB including Maths & either Physics, Electronics or Further Maths.
- Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications.
- GCSE: C English Language & Maths.
- Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification.
- International Baccalaureate: 33 points overall, including 6 points in Mathematics at Higher Level and 5 points in Physics at Higher Level.
