Course overview

Electronics and electronic systems have become the enabling technology of the material world, with devices becoming smaller, faster and cheaper.

This has brought mobile phones, MP3 players, satnav and hand-helds. Increasingly, electronics are playing a part in medicine and the biological sciences. As devices become smaller, they can be implanted in people to monitor heart conditions and deliver insulin. In the future, they may be used to seek out and destroy viruses.

Specialist modules in years three and four include computer networks, advanced computer architecture, applied parallel and concurrent programming and computational modelling.

Career opportunities

Recent graduates have pursued careers in electronics-related and information technology industries (approximately 30 and 20 per cent respectively). About 10 per cent of our graduates go on to study a higher degree at the University.
