Course details

This course offers an exciting mixture of practical and theoretical work, much of which is work-based. Students develop a broad range of technical knowledge and skills in electrical and electronic engineering. They are also equipped with the personal skills and knowledge of the industry required by employers.

The flexible study methods of the Foundation degree make it available to young people entering the engineering profession, people already in work, or those wanting to embark on a career change.

Career and progression opportunities

Employment prospects are excellent for students with the combination of engineering and self-management skills offered by this course. Diploma/certificate holders are in demand in technical and supervisory roles in the design, manufacturing and service sectors.

On completion of this it is possible to progress to the final year of the BEng(Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering. However students will be required to achieve high grades and undertake a programme of bridging study.

Entry requirements

  • A-levels: 120 points, from a minimum of one 12-unit or two 6-unit qualifications. A-level subjects must include mathematics. Level 3 Key Skills and General Studies will count towards the tariff score.
  • ND/C (Level 3): PPP
  • International Baccalaureate: 24 points, specified subjects; certificates considered.
  • QAA-approved access course: acceptable, subject specific units.
  • GCSE (minimum grade C): at least 5 subjects including English language, mathematics and a physical science.
  • For non-native speakers of English: IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing.
