Acoustical engineering is taught in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), one of the world’s leading centres for research, teaching and consultancy in acoustics.

- Analysis of signals (eg sound, seismic, biomedical)
- Ocean acoustics and sonar
- Controlling noise and vibration (eg in buildings, road vehicles, aircraft)
- Sound reproduction and musical instrument acoustics
- Perception of sound and vibration by humans
- Mechanical engineering design and computing
- Individual and group project work
Entry requirements
- A level: ABB, including mathematics and physics (one of which must be grade A)
- IB: 33 points (minimum), including a total of 12 points from mathematics and physics at higher level
- Intake: 20–25 students
- Average applicants per place: 4–5
- Selection process: UCAS application and interview
