Acoustical engineering is taught in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), one of the world’s leading centres for research, teaching and consultancy in acoustics.
Course overview

  • Ocean acoustics and sonar

  • Sound reproduction and musical instrument acoustics
  • Perception of sound and vibration by humans
  • Mechanical engineering design and computing
  • Individual and group project work

Entry requirements

  • A level: ABB, including mathematics and physics (one of which must be grade A)
  • IB: 33 points (minimum), including a total of 12 points from mathematics and physics at higher level
  • Intake: 20–25 students
  • Average applicants per place: 4–5
  • Selection process: UCAS application and interview
