When: 8 to 10 February 2011
Where: University of Hull
Hull, United Kingdom
This conference is for prospective, current and post-doctoral researchers, academics and professionals and is designed to illuminate the PhD process.
The conference will contain themed sessions including: Being a balanced researcher; Networking: Reflection; The transition from student to supervisor; The research process; The writing process and publishing as you go; Research perspectives; The Viva Voce and using your doctorate beyond academia.
Aims
The atmosphere will be conducive to thinking within a creative, supportive learning environment. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions and ‘think out loud’, to explore your experiences and recognise that you are not alone, but that others also share your concerns and sometimes even days of despair. You will have the opportunity to enhance your skills and techniques such as in reflexivity and reflection and further develop self awareness.
The conference will showcase the multifaceted nature of research recognising and acknowledging that there is no ‘one size fits all’ and that learning can be drawn from across the disciplines in the human and natural sciences and in academia and professional practice. Central to the conference are the elements of communication and networking, which we hope will promote collaboration across disciplines, help you to further build useful links in the research community and also enable you to explore the specific traditions and cultures of the different disciplines in order to develop new spaces to traverse the divides.
