Sponsor innovation for a sustainable water future
The STREAM Industrial Doctorate Centre is hosting a project sponsorship workshop on Wednesday 20 January in London. The event will serve as the launch pad for research projects which are to be supported by the water sector through the programme in 2010. Focused on strategic research challenges facing the sector, each project is partially funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council with industrial sponsors supplying both the research challenge and additional financial support. Funded projects are undertaken by STREAM Research Engineers registered for a four year Engineering Doctorate at one of the five collaborating universities.
The stream programme is delivered by five universities, coordinated by Cranfield University and including Imperial College London and the universities of Sheffield, Newcastle, and Exeter. It provides opportunities for industry to sponsor research projects and allows talented researchers to develop their skills and careers within an industrial environment and obtain an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) degree.
The workshop provides opportunities for potential sponsors to identify common interests as a precursor to co-funding projects and discuss project ideas with researchers from the five STREAM universities. Projects can fall within a wide range of topic and disciplinary areas. We only ask that sponsored projects apply innovative science and engineering to address an issue of strategic importance to the sector and have the potential to deliver a step change in the sector’s ability to respond to emerging challenges.
