Where: Cardiff School of Journalism, Media & Cultural Studies, Bute Building, King Edward VII Avenue, Cardiff University, Cardiff, Wales CF10 3NB Following the success of The Future of Newspapers, the first Journalism Practice and Journalism Studies conference in 2007, the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies will host the next conference entitled The Future of Journalism in September 2009. The environments in which journalists work – across the various platforms of print, radio, television and online - are changing rapidly in response to innovations in technology, increasingly competitive and fragmented markets for audiences and advertising revenues, government media policy and changing audience requirements for news and the ways in which it is presented and delivered. These changes are impacting on journalists’ employment, their workplaces, products and perceptions of their professional roles and values, as well as their day-to-day journalism practice. A growing army of amateur citizen journalists now delivers - but rarely edits - content for all media platforms, while new media technologies combined with the changing structure of global news industries are changing radically the ways in which journalism organisations and media businesses function and struggle for profitability. Journalism faces huge challenges and opportunities, although these are given additional impetus and direction, or conversely are slowed down, by the distinctive journalism cultures and markets which prevail in different regions of the world. Initial Future of Journalism 2009 Conference topics include - The Future of Journalism:
