UCAS, in partnership with IELTS is pleased to announce details of the International Recruitment and Admissions Conference - Responding to opportunities in the changing world, to be held at The Hotel Russell in London on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 June 2010.

For many years, the UK has been a respected world leader in higher education with the increasing number of international applicants reflecting this. For example, UCAS statistics for 2009 show a significant increase in applicants from outside the UK. There has also been considerable growth in the areas of postgraduate and transnational education (TNE).

The past year has seen a number of important changes affecting the landscape of international student recruitment and admissions. Some of these changes include the global economic climate, immigration practices and the introduction of the Points-Based System and increased competition from other countries including the US, Australia, Germany and France. Sector bodies and Further Education colleges have also been affected by these changes.

They need to consider how these issues impact on marketing strategies and budgets and to reflect on how to work more collaboratively within the sector to ensure the continued success of UK higher education in the international arena.

The conference should be attended by representatives from HEIs with the responsibility for international recruitment, the marketing of your institution to international students and those responsible for the management of international admissions.

This residential conference will address these current issues facing the international higher education recruitment market in the UK.

Tim Westlake, Director of Student Recruitment, Admissions and International Development at The University of Manchester has kindly agreed to chair the conference, which will offer expert advice and guidance on how your institution can achieve excellence in the field of international student recruitment both today and in the future.

The conference offers a combination of keynote presentations, panel sessions and interactive workshop sessions from leading figures including:

  • UCAS' new Chief Executive, Mary Curnock Cook
  • George Granger, Executive Director of Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC), who will present a Canadian perspective on international recruitment and admissions
  • Will Archer, Chief Executive, i-graduate
  • Lin Homer, Chief Executive, UK Border Agency and Dominic Scott, Chief Executive, UKCISA who will partcipate in a lively panel discussion on the Points Based System (PBS).
  • Representatives from the British Council and HEIs on working effectively with overseas agents

The conference provides an excellent opportunity for networking with colleagues and experts in the field of international recruitment and admissions,  including an exhibition, and a dinner with entertainment on Monday evening.
