The main focus of the programme is to provide students with a sound understanding of the modern techniques and theories of Financial Mathematics used in financial institutions.
Topics include
Emphasis is put on the theoretical foundations of various branches of applied mathematics, in particular probability theory, which are necessary tools in modelling and designing complex financial processes and products. Based on a firm theoretical understanding, the programme also teaches the necessary techniques from Statistics, Numerical Analysis and Computer Science so that students will be able to use mathematical techniques to solve practical problems.
In addition to the obvious 'ingredients' from the field of finance and its relation to financial practice, the programme also draws on the faculty's particular strengths in analysing questions from applied insurance. Thus, valuation and analysis of insurance-related processes and products with tools from financial mathematics is a key part of the course programme.
