This programme aims to provide students with a specialist education in finance and investment. It will give a global perspective on investment markets and asset classes, provide practical knowledge on the processes and mechanics underlying investment, and build on students' existing numerical skills so that they are able to understand and practice investment-related mathematics.
At the start of the programme, you undertake six or seven core courses, four in Semester 1 and two or three in Semester 2. These are the foundation upon which the whole MSc is built and ensure a common basis of knowledge across the different areas.
In Semester 2, you also begin to tailor your studies towards your career interests, through the selection of one or two option courses.
Finally, your MSc dissertation brings all of the year’s learning together in a piece of work unique to each student.
The practical, theoretical and numerical skills learnt through the MSc in Finance and Investment programme, as well as the global perspective of investment markets and asset classes, will leave you well-qualified for a range of finance related professions.
Graduates can take up positions in investment analysis, portfolio management, financial statement analysis and evaluation, corporate finance, product development, client servicing and risk management.
Normally an Honours degree from a good university, with an ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’ classification, in which the subjects studied include finance, accounting or economics.
Applicants with an Honours degree in a non-related subject will also be considered, but you will need to demonstrate a very high standard of ability and motivation for the programme.
