This programme is designed for all-rounders: people who will develop a broad insight into tourism, ecology, law, environment, civil engineering, fishery economics, process management and maritime transport. Versatile people, with an overview of coastal management issues. People whose excellent communication skills will help them overcome conflicts between different stakeholders.
Main programme topics and projects:
Graduates find employment with all the organisations you would expect to be involved in managing a coastal zone - not just NGOs, fisheries and authorities, but also consultancies, research bodies, maritime organisations, and recreation and tourism. You might work for an international advisory agency, be involved in environmental protection, or even become a trouble-shooter, specialised in a particular domain such as fishery. Obviously, a degree in coastal zone management will also qualify you for a career in research.
To qualify for enrolment, you should successfully have completed two years of bachelor's-level study in economics, civil engineering, (marine) biology, rural development, tourism, recreation, communication, fish and fisheries or process management.
Applicants with a different background may also be eligible for enrolment. Several years of relevant working experience may compensate for a lack of formal qualifications.
Moreover, you must have a sufficient knowledge of the English language (e.g. TOEFL with a score of 550, IELTS 6.0), and possess basic computer skills.
