International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling (IMPRS-ESM)

The International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling is a joint doctoral programme of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the University of Hamburg. Close collaboration with six other German global change research institutes of international reputation provides a comprehensive training and research environment for Ph.D. students.

The IMPRS-ESM offers interdisciplinary Ph.D. studies in the comprehensive field of Earth System Modelling, with emphasis on the interactions between the natural and the human systems. The scientific subject is the development, application, and evaluation of a hierarchy of Earth system models at different temporal and spatial scales to answer key questions of Global Change.

Doctoral students of the IMPRS-ESM contribute to the development, application, and evaluation of a spectrum of Earth system models at different temporal and spatial scales, including the interactions between the natural and the human systems. The School comprises institutions and scientists from the broad field of Earth sciences as well as from economics and social sciences.
