Course description

This is a 3 year programme where students gain a broad education in Earth Sciences along with a more advanced understanding of the application of chemistry to natural systems and their evolution through time.

Geochemistry is the ideal programme if you have a good background in physical sciences and are particularly interested in the chemistry of natural systems and their evolution through time.

In addition to a broad education in Earth Sciences, you will gain a detailed understanding of the chemical processes involved in both rock formation and the interaction between water, rocks and minerals in the Earth's crust. Laboratory practical work and fieldwork form a substantial component of this programme.

Career opportunities

Geoscientists find employment in the oil, mining, water and environmental fields. Geochemists are particularly suited to employment in site investigation and laboratory-based Earth Science disciplines. Many of the graduates go on to take further degrees including MSc and PhD.
