About the programme
The GIMA programme aims to educate students and professionals to become all-round managers and/or researchers of geo-information. Students will be introduced to the theoretical, methodological, technological and organisational principles of processing and analysing digital geo-information, the management and research aspects of geo-information, and the innovative application of geo-information in a wide variety of spatial application fields.

Extensive career opportunities are available for people with an MSc in GIMA in both the private sector:
- oil companies,
- geo-marketing,
- consultancy, etc.
and the public sector:
- research institutes
- municipalities
- regional
- national governmental organisations, etc.
In recent years the demand for highly educated managers and specialists in the field of geo-information has grown exponentially and is expected to continue to rise, given the increasing role of geo-information within societal processes.
Admission requirments
Educational requirements: Bachelor's degree in geo-sciences or another relevant field of science and have basic knowledge of and experience in geo-information.
Proof of profiency in English
All other applicants, including applicants who hold a Dutch HBO diploma (diploma of higher professional education), must provide proof of proficiency in English. To do so, you are required to take one of the following English language tests:
- IELTS, Academic Module. Minimum score: 6.5 overall band, at least 6 for writing. IELTS is the test preferred by Utrecht University.
- TOEFL, Internet based. Minimum score: 93. Institutional scores are not accepted. The TOEFL institution code for Utrecht University is 9062.
- Cambridge Certificates
- Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English at least a B grade.
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English at least a C grade.
