This programme offers broad training in social science methodology, with advanced understanding of contemporary debates in urban and regional development, including conceptualisations of creativity and innovation, and the economic and cultural underpinnings of urban and regional “success”. It is recognised under the ESRC’s 1+3 funding scheme.
The MA in Creative Cities is based around small group, seminar-based teaching. Assessment is by coursework only. Feedback from teaching staff on assessed work and presentations throughout each semester enables students to continuously improve their research and writing skills.
Semester 1: Qualitative research methods; Researching urban economy and culture 1: communication and research skills; Survey design methods; The creative economy or Urban futures; Thinking through cities and regions.
Semester 2: Consumption and the city or Global city regions; Researching urban economy and culture 2; Statistical data analysis; Thinking through cities and regions.
Plus: Dissertation
Entry Requirement
Upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in geography or a related subject; or a master’s degree in an appropriate subject.
