Course Description

This MRes combines specialised training in the methods and uses of remote sensing applied to the ocean, with a thorough grounding in key areas of oceanography. It will suit those seeking postgraduate training in oceanography and wishing to specialise in Earth observation. The programme differs from an MSc by focusing less on taught modules and more on the research project (about two-thirds of the year).

As a graduate scientist, engineer or mathematician, you will acquire broad knowledge of all the techniques used in satellite and airborne remote sensing of the ocean; and undertake an in-depth study of one particular methodology and a comprehensive look at a specific field of application. You will develop key skills in satellite data processing and image analysis, and gain hands-on research experience through a research project.
