The curriculum focuses on what are considered to be the future main emphases of water engineering (as described in the 1996 UNESCO/IAHR panel report "Education of Hydraulic Engineers"), an area in which the Universität Stuttgart ranks highly internationally.

The existing worldwide problems facing water resources will only continue to grow in magnitude, and in the future, water-related problems will be some of the most challenging facing society. It is exactly for this purpose that we strive to educate the young engineers and scientists of today, so that tomorrow they may successfully find positions in the worldwide water resources engineering and management genre.

The courses offered cover the following three main topics:

  • Groundwater Resources Management and Geohydrology
  • Hydraulic Engineering and River Basin Management
  • Sanitary Engineering and Water Quality Management
